Healys Sets Up Trust To Safeguard Historic Motoring Memorabilia
Solicitors Healys have stepped in to safeguard a unique collection of motoring memorabilia worth more than £250,000, which is owned by the Guild of Motoring Writers (GoMW).
The Classic Car Group at the London firm of solicitors which specialises in giving legal advice to the owners of race teams and those who collect classic and super cars has set up a trust to safeguard more than a hundred individual items.
The items range from Jackie Stewart’s original racing helmet to a connecting rod from Mike Hawthorn’s 1955 Le Mans winning Jaguar, including many original artworks hanging at The Pall Mall and Woodcote Park headquarters of the Royal Automobile Club.
“These items are a huge asset to the Guild,” said Guild President Nick Mason “and one which we want to look after for future generations.”
He added: “When Healys heard what we were trying to do they stepped in and suggested that a trust be set up. This means that the items which we have been given and that are on display at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu; the RAC Pall Mall club house in London and the Coventry Motor Museum will now be safe.”

We give professional advice to car collectors and institutions all the time and we were delighted to step in and help the Guild look after these items, which are an important part of their heritage.”
March 27th saw the official unveiling of the new Guild of Motoring Writers permanent display at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu in Hampshire, which is where many of the items that are now secure thanks to the trust will be on display to the public
Cutting the ribbon were Lord Ralph Montague and Guild President Nick Mason, former Pink Floyd drummer and noted car collector and writer. The display presents some of The Guild’s unique collection of motoring memorabilia, donated to it over the years since its formation in 1944.
Clive Robertson added: “Meeting Nick and Guild Hon Sec Chris Adamson was a perfect start to Healys’ relationship with the world’s largest organisation for motoring editorial professionals”.
Healys partner, Martin John who worked extensively on setting up the trust, added, “It was good to meet the Guild. I look forward to working with them on this and other projects.”
