Immigration and Nationality Fees for 2019/2020
On 29 March 2019 the Home Office published their fee schedule for in country and out of country applications. The fees were frozen for 2019/2020. But because of the Immigration Health Surcharge applicants are paying significantly more on applications then they did in 2018.
The new immigration charges are soon to be published and we are unsure as to whether there is to be another hike (which has been the case over the past 5 years) or they are to remain the same.
When you consider the level of fees levied against the cost to the Home Office of processing an application, the difference is stark.
The most profitable lines for the Home Office are:
- Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) Fee: £2389
- ILR processing costs to the Home Office: £243
- Tier 2 shortage occupation fee: £928
- Tier 2 shortage occupation processing costs to the Home Office: £127
Most outrageous is the application fee for registering a child as British.
The fee in 2019/20 is still over £1,000, but the actual cost is £372. Over the past five years this fee alone has generated £100m profit (called a surplus by the Home Office)
The Home Office fees are disproportionate to the cost of processing the applications and it is high time that this was challenged in the courts.
